Yes you can. Just don’t hook up the water line.
Mine is working great this way.
Yes. You would just need to add the water line to use the steam function in the future if you wanted to use that feature.
Yes.
Our dryer and washing machine are across from each other rather than side by side do installers could not hook up the water line.
We didn't think about that when we bought the dryer.
Works just fine without it, you just can't use the steam feature!
Yes, you can use a Steam Dryer as a regular dryer, you just won't be able to use the Steam Feature if it is not connected.
Thank you for your inquiry on our Whirlpool appliances.

Connection to water is totally optional.
Your choice.
I did connect to water, it comes with everything needed.
My friend just purchased a new Samsung dryer (not this exact model) and it works just fine without the water connected to the dryer for steam.
I asked this same question when I purchased and the salesman at Best Buy looked it up and said it did not have to be hooked up.
Yes you can use it without connecting the dryer to water.
It's fine to use the non-steam cycles on the DV42H5200EP Dryer without connecting it to water.
You truly do not have to use this function.
yes

You shouldn’t need additional plumbing for a steam dryer.
You can connect your steam dryer to a water source by using a “Y” hose connector.
The “Y” connector lets both your washer and dryer connect to the same water source – no extra pipes are needed.
Steam can be used on just-washed, wet loads for extra wrinkle protection or dry, lightly-worn clothes to refresh them without having to wash.
Steam dryers are available in electric or gas models and can usually be used with or without the steam setting.
Some inject steam directly into the dryer while others spray a fine mist of cold water that mixes with the heat in the dryer to create steam.
However, steam settings should only be used on washable fabrics.
Fewer wrinkles Steam penetrates fabrics to smooth out and release wrinkles.
Reduce static Steam added at the end of a cycle can help cut down on cling by adding humidity to the dryer.
Odor neutralization Particularly useful when refreshing lightly worn clothes, moisture combined with dryer heat can help absorb odor.
